On July 2nd, 2010, Welthungerhilfe, Hivos, ACTED and IBIS officially inaugurated the first Alliance2015 Office in Nicaragua, bringing together all four members working in the country.

Bilateral joint offices between Alliance members are nothing new and have come and gone whenever they made sense, helping members to cooperate and save costs. There are joint offices in Africa (e.g. Sierra Leone and Liberia), Asia (e.g. Afghanistan, Cambodia) and Latin America (e.g. Haiti, Bolivia).
In time for our 10-year Alliance2015 anniversary, however, the new office in Managua is the first one to host all Alliance members who work in the country under one roof.

The office has been functional since May, with regular meetings ongoing. Welthungerhilfe, ACTED, Hivos and IBIS expect reduced costs, a better coordination among themselves and an improved standing vis à vis the donors.

For their joint agenda, the four organizations decided to focus on field-level emergency response planning, sharing and mapping, planning joint projects and to focus on a joint lobby & policy dialogue. The joint office is also a step that Alliance is taking to increase its aid effectiveness.

From the beginning, Latin America has always been the most active continent regarding Alliance cooperation and joint activities. In Nicaragua, Welthungerhilfe and IBIS had previously been cooperating on the MISTAP project, an EU co-financed integrated development project for indigenous people in north-eastern Nicaragua.
