Activating immediate emergency response to the Beirut explosion and supporting short and long-term recovery efforts.
Following the explosion in Beirut port on the 4th of August 2020, Alliance2015 members already present on the ground joined the community’s efforts to respond to the urgent humanitarian needs and
mitigate the severe long-term consequences of the disaster. In the immediate aftermath of the explosion, Alliance2015 agencies have activated existing coordination efforts both at Head Office and country-level for information exchange and coordination of a joint assessment to provide further insights on how this disaster has exacerbated already precarious food security and livelihoods conditions, aiming to complement other information made available by local and international actors as part of this response.
Over €400,000 were immediately released by Alliance2015 members for the first response and we call upon institutional donors to complement these efforts to reach vulnerable disaster-affected population
with relief activities and short and long-term recovery programmes.
